I confess that for years I was of the opinion Buteyko would have turned in his grave if he had seen the method, or variations thereof, taught via the web.
The Covid-19 pandemic made me re-consider; for obvious reasons.
Firstly, I soon noticed there was a generalized increase in anxiety, panic attacks and exacerbations of respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD, and secondly, many of these patients were afraid to come to my surgery in person.
Not much was known about covid-19 yet, and I reckoned that between a patient having to wear a mask and having to observe a person’s breathing via the web, the latter was the lesser of two evils.
After all, in 2020 there wasn’t a vaccine and up untilil July-August 2021 most of the popolation hadn’t been vaccinated yet.
Hence, I purchased a tablet and initially started assessing patients I already knew. Subsequently I progressed to people I had never met in the flesh.
This results were, and continue to be more than satisfactory. I assess and teach on a person-to-person basis only; it is my belief that teaching the method to a group of people via web isn’t half as effective.
